
In the Buenos Aires town of Villa Madero, an off-duty police officer shot a 16-year-old criminal who was attempting to steal a car from a neighbor along with an accomplice. The incident took place at the intersection of Cabildo and Junín streets, where Officer José David, in plain clothes, witnessed the scene and felt compelled to intervene.
According to statements from the officer collected in the official report, when he ordered the armed robbers to stop, they reacted by pulling out their firearms. In response to this threat, the officer fired three shots, managing to scare off the assailants. However, one of them, the 16-year-old with a criminal record, was seriously injured and died shortly after.
At the scene, a Bersa caliber 22mm firearm was found next to the deceased criminal. Both the victim of the attempted robbery and the police officer emerged unscathed from the incident. The case has been classified as "homicide in the course of a robbery" and is under the purview of the Thematic Homicide Departmental Investigation Unit.
The forensic examinations confirmed that the criminal had two bullet impacts on his left ribcage. The prosecutor in charge of the investigation ordered the seizure of the firearms involved and did not take disciplinary measures against the police personnel involved.
